Fabregas pleased with Barca toughnessFri, 27 Jan 2012 00:08:17 GMT

Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas feels his team's Copa del Rey quarter-final win over Real Madrid proves they are more resilient than in recent seasons.

Pep Guardiola's men are through to the last four after a 2-2 draw with Real on Wednesday secured a 4-3 aggregate win.

But they had to do it tough at Camp Nou, giving away a two-goal lead and soaking up pressure as the match wore on.

"Historically at this club when what happened yesterday happened in the past then we would normally collapse in the last minute and lose," Fabregas said. "It's there in our history."

Barca has so often disappointed itself in the past and had this bad luck about it. Yesterday Barca suffered and suffered but ended up drawing and going through to the semi-finals of the cup."

"I see this as something positive and so no I don't see it as a negative. I think we have to take all the very, very positive things out of this."

Falcao hails Simeone inputThu, 26 Jan 2011 17:03:51 GMT

Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao believes new coach Diego Simeone is responsible for his return to form.

Striker Falcao arrived at the Vicente Calderon from Porto in August.

After making a fine start to his career in La Liga, the 25-year-old began to struggle in the run-up to the mid-season break.

However, Falcao has rediscovered his touch following the arrival of Simeone as coach on December 23, hitting five goals in his last two league matches and taking his tally to 14 for the season.

According to the Colombia international, the spectacular return to form is down to the new boss.

"Simeone knew me from having worked together at River (Plate)," he told AS.

Mascherano: Clasico is not won yetWed, 25 Jan 2012 16:39:14 GMT

Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano says his side cannot take their recent dominance over Real Madrid for granted.

Barca host Real in the second leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final on Wednesday having won the first leg 2-1 at the Bernabeu last week.

Pep Guardiola's only loss to Real as Barcelona coach came in last season's Copa del Rey final, and Mascherano said their first-leg lead did not mean they were already into the next round.

"We have the measure of Madrid," Mascherano told Goal.com. "But that doesn't always guarantee success and we are still not in the semi-finals of the cup."

"The tie against Madrid isn't won yet, but we are optimistic; we have a good advantage from the first leg but it is no good being over-confident and we know Wednesday will be a harder match than the one at the Bernabeu."

Mascherano says Sunday's sublime showing at Malaga, where Barca beat the Andalusians 4-1, will give the Catalans confidence for the latest Clasico clash.

Conte to make changes for Roma clashTue, 24 Jan 2012 07:01:53 GMT

Juventus coach Antonio Conte has promised to make significant changes for Tuesday's Coppa Italia quarter-final tie against Roma.

"I'll almost certainly change something, both because we have injuries and because it's only fair to give those players who have been at my disposal since the beginning of the season the chance to play in such a good match against Roma," Conte said.

"Therefore, as far as possible - because I have only five men in defence and five in the midfield - we'll try to give a chance to those who deserve it and who seized their chance against Bologna."

Conte has two injury concerns going into the clash, with Fabio Quagliarella still on the sidelines after the former Napoli forward sustained a fractured cheekbone in the recent victory over Lecce.

Ferdinand breaks down, in doubt for Arsenal clashSat, 21 Jan 2012 11:32:44 GMT

Rio Ferdinand is a major doubt for Manchester United's trip to Arsenal on Sunday after breaking down in training with a back injury.

The England defender suffered the injury on Thursday, missed training on Friday and is not expected to take part in the club's final session on Saturday ahead of the match, according to Goal.com.

United's coaching staff do not want to take any chances with the 33-year-old, who has suffered with persistent back problems over the last 12 months.

Sources have told the website that Ferdinand is considered 'highly doubtful' for Sunday's mouth-watering Premier League showdown at the Emirates Stadium.
